Organization is Key

Good Afternoon, folks!

Would you believe it is 3:00pm and I am just now having my first cup of coffee?? Get your cuppa coffee/tea ready, we have some organizing to do. This may be a little lengthy.

As I mentioned yesterday, I have not been the greatest organizer, and I have proof:

I know, I know, I know, it was bad! How many times a year do you get this lazy? This usually happens around the holidays.

Now, I have seen some very impressive craft rooms, either on Pinterest or Facebook, but that’s great if you have the money to invest in those things. Myself? I am not so fortunate. So I try to organize on a budget. In fact, most of my supplies were given to me as a gift from my mother! And until I went through my craft room, I did not fully understand half the things she sent me. After going through everything, I am so grateful for the push she has given me throughout these years to pursue what I love!

I will be honest, at one point, I had thought of downsizing to a Tiny House! Could you imagine having a craft room in a Tiny House?! I have no doubt that it could be done, but I sure don’t think I would be able to have that creative flow in such a cramped area. (No offence to the Tiny House society, love the concept.)

After using my handy dandy labeler, foldable boxes, glue gun, and some elbow grease I was able to create this:

The pegboard is super easy to do. All you need are some screws, washers, a drill, some pegboard, wood glue and 2×4’s (long enough to the size you would like). If you get all your materials from the hardware store (like Lowe’s or Home Depot) I strongly encourage you to have them cut the wood for you. This makes it so much easier when you get home to put it all together. This project cost about $25. You could always paint the pegboard if you wanted, I chose to wait on painting. All of the metal hooks were bought from Amazon.

As for the labels I used on the collapsible fabric boxes, they wouldn’t stick directly to the box, so I had to improvise. I attached the stickers to a piece of paper and used the glue gun to help it stick to the box. Each label has a general word to identify what is in the box.

Does anyone use a Cuttlebug? Have dies and embossing folders in a bunch of different places? I have just the trick! Using old manila envelopes, I labeled each envelope as you can see here:

Have so many stickers, you don’t know what to do with them? I didn’t even know I had so many stickers. (Probably from my scrapbooking kick.) I used an old 2″ 3-ring binder, some inserts, label machine and separated all of the stickers by occasion.

I think the most important thing about organization, is to keep each gadget together with its intended purpose. When there gets to be too many things cluttering the workspace, it makes it harder to work.
